WELCOME
Welcome to my website, where you can find out more about my historical novels, other books and journalism.
My third novel, Blood Royal, was published in Britain in April 2009. Published by HarperCollins, it describes medieval England’s proudest time – victory at Agincourt and beyond as Henry V’s armies sweep across France. The question it asks is, what must that terrifying English advance have felt like for the frightened French princess, pitied by almost all her fellow-countrymen, whom Henry married?

In the US, my second novel, Figures in Silk, made its hardback debut in March 2009, published by William Morrow. Set in fifteenth-century London, at the end of the Wars of the Roses, it deals with the world of silk merchants and craftswoman – and features King Richard III, best remembered for his possible role in the disappearance of his nephews, the Princes in the Tower. The same novel appeared in the UK in paperback in March 2009 with the title Queen of Silks.

Portrait of an Unknown Woman, my first work of fiction, tells the story of the painter Hans Holbein’s time in England at the home of Thomas More and his adoptive daughter, Meg, while King Henry VIII ponders a royal divorce and a plunge away from the Church of Rome. It was published in the US in 2008 by William Morrow and in the UK by HarperCollins in 2006.
